Professor Dr. Deepak Aryal has been appointed as the new vice chancellor of Tribhuvan University (TU), Nepal’s oldest and largest academic institution.

Dr. Aryal was selected from a list of three candidates recommended by a committee led by Minister for Education, Science, and Technology, Raghuji Pant. The final decision was made by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who is also the chancellor of the university.
The recommendation list included:
- Acting vice chancellor Prof. Dr. Khadga KC
- Former dean of the Faculty of Science, Prof. Dr. Vinil Aryal
- Former head of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Dr. Deepak Aryal
Replaces acting vice chancellor
The position became vacant after Prof. Dr. Keshar Jung Baral resigned on Chaitra 28, 2081. Following the resignation, the Prime Minister had assigned Prof. Dr. Khadga KC as the acting vice chancellor until a new appointment was made.
What lies ahead
With Dr. Aryal now officially leading TU, expectations are high for institutional reform, modernization of academic processes, and better governance. His experience in environmental sciences and administrative leadership is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the university.
