A female detainee who had escaped from Kailali with handcuffs on has been arrested from India.
Meena Shahi Damai, a 50-year-old woman who had been arrested in a human trafficking case and had escaped from the District Government Attorney’s Office on Saturday, was arrested from Palia, India, according to the police.
Kailali’s Chief Superintendent of Police (SP) Padam Bahadur Bista confirmed that Damai was arrested from Palia. According to him, she was captured while hiding there.
Damai had escaped while being taken to the Government Attorney’s Office for an extension of her custody in connection with the human trafficking case.
Following the incident of the detainee escaping with handcuffs, two police personnel have been subjected to disciplinary action.
SP Bista informed that Police Assistant Sub-Inspector Chakra Adhikari and Police Constable Lokraj Joshi, who were escorting Damai for the custody extension, have been suspended.
