Academy Invites 534 New Members Including Ariana Grande, Jason  Mikey Madison, Momoa & Sebastian Stan

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is welcoming 534 new members this year, spanning across multiple disciplines in the film industry. From celebrated actors and directors to costume designers, cinematographers, and visual effects experts, the fresh slate of invitees reflects the Academy’s continued efforts to diversify its talent pool.

Among the notable names invited to join the prestigious body are Ariana Grande, Jason Momoa, Aubrey Plaza, Margaret Qualley, Sebastian Stan, Naomi Ackie, Gillian Anderson, and Kieran Culkin. Also included are Dave Bautista, Jodie Comer, Rachel Brosnahan, Jeremy Strong, Mikey Madison, and Danielle Deadwyler — many of whom have already made a mark through acclaimed performances and industry recognition.

New Members Represent Global Talent and Oscar-Caliber Work

This year’s invitations include 91 Oscar nominees and 26 Academy Award winners, showcasing the caliber of talent the Academy continues to recognize. Three Scientific and Technical Award honorees are also among the list, affirming the Academy’s appreciation for innovation behind the scenes.

In a joint statement, Academy CEO Bill Kramer and President Janet Yang expressed enthusiasm over the new additions:
“We are thrilled to invite this esteemed class of artists, technologists, and professionals to join the Academy. Their dedication to the craft and global contributions to filmmaking are both inspiring and vital to the evolution of cinema.”

Growing International Footprint and Membership Numbers

Should all invitees accept their offers, the Academy’s total membership will reach 11,120, with 10,143 members holding voting rights. Representing over 60 countries and territories, the new class reinforces the Academy’s broader international vision. Each artist will be assigned to one of the 19 Academy branches, or join as Associates.

Interestingly, 12 individuals received invitations across multiple branches, recognizing their versatile contributions to the industry. However, a notable exclusion this year was Karla Sofía Gascón — who made history as the first trans actor nominated for her performance in Emilia Pérez. Despite the groundbreaking nomination, she was reportedly left out due to controversy surrounding past social media posts.

This evolving and dynamic membership highlights the Academy’s ongoing commitment to representation, excellence, and global storytelling in film.
