Facebook May Face Ban in Nepal if Not Registered Within 7 Days

Nepal’s Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has once again warned that Facebook and other platforms under Meta could be banned in the country if they do not register within the next seven days. Speaking at a departmental interaction program on the Right to Information, organized by the National Information Commission, Gurung revealed that the government has already issued several notices requesting Meta to register in Nepal, but the company has not complied.

Meta Asked to Register and Pay Taxes in Nepal

Minister Gurung emphasized that Meta earns a large amount of money from users in Nepal, and therefore, must officially register and start paying taxes in the country. He noted that the deadline for the third public notice has already passed, and now Meta has only one week left to take action or face a complete ban. Gurung had issued similar warnings before, on Baisakh 5, and earlier on Magh 23 during a program organized by Nepal Telecom. If Meta fails to meet the deadline again, platforms like Facebook and Instagram could be restricted in Nepal.
