Police have taken four family members into custody for investigation after a woman was found dead in a forest in Dharan, Sunsari.
The woman’s half-naked body was discovered on Monday afternoon inside the Panchakanya Community Forest, located in Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City-6. On Thursday, police confirmed her identity as 34-year-old Chunkumari Dahal Budhathoki from Mahalaxmi Municipality-2, Dhankuta.
Although originally from Dhankuta, she had been living in Itahari with her 13-year-old son for the past two years. Her husband, Prem Bahadur, is currently working in South Korea.
Police suspect it was a planned murder and believe family members might be involved. Among those taken into custody are her brother-in-law and his wife. However, police have not officially revealed the names of those arrested.
Sources say Chunkumari didn’t have a good relationship with her husband, and there were property disputes within the family.
DSP Prakash Jabege from the Dharan Area Police Office said the investigation is ongoing, and several people have been brought in for questioning. The body was found leaning against a tree, and a local shepherd had informed the police after discovering it.
