A fire in Halesi Tuwachung Municipality-2, Dikuwa, has destroyed a school and nine houses.
The fire started from the local Balchikhola Community Forest and spread on Monday, burning down a community school and several homes.
According to municipal spokesperson Kamal Giri, the wildfire ignited around 3:30 PM, damaging a two-room building at Balkanya Basic School. Houses belonging to Adam Rai, Samar Bahadur Rai, Pabindra Kumar Rai, Hiradhan Rai, Krishna Bahadur Rai, Chayan Kumar Rai, and Tanka Bahadur Rai were destroyed, while Ran Bahadur Rai’s house suffered partial damage.
The fire was brought under control at 9:45 PM with the help of the Nepal Army, Armed Police, Nepal Police, municipal police, and locals.
Emergency relief of NPR 10,000 per household was distributed to affected families on Monday night. The total damage is yet to be determined.
