Floods continue to wreak havoc across India’s northeastern states, leaving at least 34 people dead, according to Reuters.
In Sikkim, thousands of tourists remain stranded, while rescue teams have been deployed in Meghalaya to assist more than 500 people stuck in remote areas. The Indian army and disaster response forces — including SDRF, NDRF, and Assam Rifles — are working around the clock to evacuate victims.
In Manipur alone, over 56,000 people have been affected, and more than 10,000 structures have been destroyed by the floods, reports PTI.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday urged the local governments of the flood-hit states to carry out all possible rescue and relief efforts. He spoke with Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, Sikkim CM Prem Singh Tamang, and Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey to assess the situation. Modi also assured that the central government would provide full support for relief and rehabilitation.
