Godawari Mayor Cup 2082 Kicks Off with Thrilling Wins for Kathmandu and Lalitpur

The second edition of the inter-municipality Godawari Mayor Cup football tournament began with a bang. On Monday, Kathmandu Metropolitan City and Lalitpur Metropolitan City both secured impressive victories in their opening matches.

Lalitpur Scores Big in Group A Clash

Lalitpur defeated Bagmati Rural Municipality 7–3 in an exciting Group A match played at Chyasal Ground. Due to heavy rain, the game had been postponed from Sunday and relocated from Godawari Multi-purpose Stadium.

For Lalitpur, Rafil Maharjan and Niraj Maharjan scored two goals each. Sunny Byanjankar, Bishal Baniya, and Nabin Karmacharya added one goal each to seal the high-scoring win.

Kathmandu Dominates Changunarayan

In another Group A game, defending champions Kathmandu Metropolitan City thrashed Changunarayan Municipality 5–0 at the ANFA Complex. Raj Paudel scored twice, while Akhilesh Karki, Saroj Tamang, and Biraj Maharjan each netted once.

Originally scheduled at the Godawari Multi-purpose Stadium, this match was moved to Satdobato Ground due to unexpected rainfall.

Dakshinkali Defeats Kageshwori Manohara

Dakshinkali Municipality also started strong, defeating Kageshwori Manohara Municipality 5–0. Amit Tamang led with a hat-trick, while Navin Karmacharya scored one, and an own goal added to the tally. This was the only match completed at the Godawari Stadium on Monday.

Points Table After First Matches

After these matches, Lalitpur and Godawari Municipalities lead Group A with 3 points each. Bagmati Rural and Mahalaxmi Municipalities are yet to register a point.

Godawari Mayor Cup: Upcoming Matches and Details

Godawari Mayor Cup: Kathmandu and Changunarayan Municipalities still have to play against Madhyapur Thimi Municipality, while Dakshinkali and Kageshwori will face Chandragiri Municipality next.

The tournament will continue until Jestha 3, featuring 13 municipalities from the Kathmandu Valley. The winning team will receive NPR 5 lakhs and a trophy, while the runner-up will get NPR 3 lakhs. The most disciplined team will be awarded NPR 50,000, and NPR 25,000 each will go to the best goalkeeper, defender, forward, top scorer, and best coach.
