Susanna Reid, co-host of Good Morning Britain, found herself at the center of controversy on Thursday (April 3) after making a remark about Meghan Markle’s new lifestyle brand, As Ever, during a discussion about Donald Trump‘s import tariffs.
Meghan Markle’s New Brand Launch
On Wednesday, Meghan Markle launched her lifestyle brand, which features a range of products including crepe mixes, cookie mixes, raspberry jam, honey, and teas. The launch was a huge success, with items selling out in under an hour.
Susanna Reid’s Controversial Comment
While discussing the new tariffs with guests Ayesha Hazarika and Ed Vaizey, Susanna abruptly shifted the conversation to Meghan’s brand. She joked, “The one question we haven’t asked is how this is going to affect you if you’ve bought products from Meghan Markle’s new range. That’s the big question this morning.”
Ed Balls, her co-host, was quick to respond, asking, “A big question for who?” Susanna explained, “For anyone who might want to buy them, but they’ve all sold out.”
She continued discussing the products, mentioning an £11 jar of raspberry jam, which she referred to as a “raspberry spread,” and noted that the jars were “quite small.”
Viewer Backlash Against Good Morning Britain
The comments did not sit well with Good Morning Britain viewers, many of whom expressed frustration on X (formerly Twitter). One viewer wrote, “ENOUGH WITH THE MARKLE HATE @gmb! It’s so pathetically BORING now.” Another added, “How is Susanna Reid making Trump Tariffs about Meghan Markle?” Fans criticized the focus on Meghan Markle, calling it an unnecessary distraction from the main discussion about trade deals.
The disapproval continued, with many viewers questioning why the show had to bring up the Duchess of Sussex’s brand in a segment on serious global issues.
