Gujarat Titans (GT) clinched a dramatic three-wicket win against Mumbai Indians (MI) in match number 56 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The match, played on Tuesday, May 6 at the Wankhede Stadium, turned into a low-scoring thriller due to rain interruptions.

GT given revised target after rain

Rain interrupted the game during the 18th over of the second innings. As a result, the target was adjusted to 147 runs from 19 overs. Gujarat needed 15 runs in the final over and managed to chase it down successfully.

Key performances in GT’s chase

GT captain Shubman Gill led from the front with a 43-run knock. Jos Buttler added 30 valuable runs. MI bowlers Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ashwini Kumar did their best, grabbing two wickets each, but couldn’t stop the Titans from winning.

GT’s brilliant bowling restricted MI

Earlier in the match, Gujarat won the toss and opted to bowl. Their decision paid off as they restricted MI to 155/8 in 20 overs. Will Jacks (53), Suryakumar Yadav (35), and Corbin Bosch (27) were the main contributors with the bat for MI.

MI top-order fails to perform

Mumbai’s top order crumbled under pressure. Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma were dismissed early. Middle-order batters like Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, and Naman Dhir couldn’t contribute much either.

Gujarat bowlers shine at Wankhede

Sai Kishore was the pick of the bowlers for Gujarat Titans with two wickets. Five other GT bowlers also took one wicket each, showing a complete team effort with the ball.

Updated IPL 2025 points table after MI vs GT

After their win, Gujarat Titans now lead the IPL 2025 points table with 16 points and a Net Run Rate (NRR) of +0.793. Royal Challengers Bengaluru are second, also with 16 points, but a lower NRR.

MI’s playoff spot in danger

MI slipped to the fourth position after this loss. They have 14 points and an NRR of +1.156. Punjab Kings are in third place with 15 points. Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings are officially out of the playoff race. Sunrisers Hyderabad have also been eliminated.
