Former minister and CPN-UML leader Pradeep Nepal was cremated like an ordinary citizen, as per his final wish.
He passed away on Tuesday afternoon at Norvic Hospital. His funeral was held according to the will he had written before his death, in which he requested a simple cremation without any special honors.
Because of this wish, no formal tribute programs were organized. “He wanted to be cremated like a normal citizen, so the family couldn’t hold events like tributes,” said CPN-UML publicity department chief Rajendra Gautam.
Some leaders and supporters, including Deputy Prime Minister Prakash Man Singh, did come to Norvic Hospital. However, there was no official tribute, no party flag was draped over his body, and no state honors were given. The usual procedures followed after the death of political leaders were also not carried out.
“Pradeep Nepal was a leader with a unique mindset, culture, and style,” said UML Politburo member Surya Thapa. “Doing things differently was always his special trait.” Pradeep Nepal was especially known in political circles as a straightforward and honest leader.
