Heavy Snowfall Disrupts Life in Humla and Karnali’s High-Altitude Districts

Snowfall has been occurring in the Himalayan district of Humla and other high-altitude districts of Karnali since Friday night. The snowfall began Friday night due to thick clouds caused by a change in the weather, as the sun did not appear during the day.

On Saturday morning, four inches of snow had accumulated in the district headquarters of Simkot, while up to two feet of snow was reported in the northern Namkha Rural Municipality. Local resident Gaugora Bohara stated that this third round of snowfall in Humla has provided relief to farmers. Farmers in the region believe that the snow will contribute to a good harvest of late-season crops.

However, the snowfall has disrupted daily life in Simkot and Namkha Rural Municipality. It was reported that due to ongoing snowfall on Saturday morning, locals were unable to venture outside their homes due to the cold. The temperature in the area has dropped below freezing.

Additionally, the only air service connecting districts has been disrupted due to the snowfall.
