About 2 kilometers north of Chandranigahapur Chowk in Rautahat, there is a nursery in the Adarsha Community Forest. Near this nursery, an elephant named Yamgaj” has been left stranded. It wandered from Parsa National Park and is now injured, unable to walk properly.
A video of the weak and injured Yamgaj has gone viral on social media. Many people visit the elephant, bringing green corn husks to feed it. They take pictures and videos before leaving. Yamgaj has a serious injury on its right leg.
Local people are worried because the forest where the elephant is staying has a history of poaching. In 2070 (B.S.), a rhino that wandered from Chitwan National Park into this same forest was shot and injured. Despite receiving treatment, the rhino died two months later. Fearing the same fate for Yamgaj, locals are becoming more concerned.
They have urged forest officials and the municipality to rescue and treat the elephant immediately. They are pressuring authorities to take Yamgaj back to the national park after treatment. Ward No. 3 Chairman Ravi Devkota emphasized that the elephant’s treatment should not be neglected.
