The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is all set to resume on May 17, after being suspended for a week due to security concerns following Operation Sindoor. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made the announcement on Monday, May 12, along with releasing a revised schedule for the rest of the tournament.
PBKS vs DC Match Rescheduled for May 24 in Jaipur
One of the most talked-about games — Punjab Kings (PBKS) vs Delhi Capitals (DC) — which was stopped midway on May 8 at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala, will now be replayed on Saturday, May 24. The new venue for the match will be the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
During the original match, only 10.1 overs were bowled in the first innings before technical failures and security issues forced the game to be abandoned. Players were then flown back to Delhi due to military tensions at the India-Pakistan border.
No points were given to either team, and fans were left wondering if the match would be rescheduled. The BCCI has now cleared the air with this update.
Changing Playoff Scenarios for PBKS and DC
At the time of the abandoned match, Shreyas Iyer’s PBKS were aiming to seal their playoff spot with a win against Axar Patel’s DC. But things have changed. There are still eight matches left before the rescheduled Punjab Kings vs DC game, which could shift the playoff equations.
PBKS currently sit third on the points table with 15 points. With four more matches to go, they need just one win to officially secure a place in the playoffs. Their next challenge is against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Sunday, May 18.
Six Cities to Host Remaining Matches
The BCCI confirmed that the remaining 17 matches of IPL 2025 will take place across six cities:
- Bengaluru
- Jaipur
- Delhi
- Lucknow
- Ahmedabad
- Mumbai
The IPL 2025 final, which was originally scheduled earlier, has now been pushed to June 3. Details about the venues for the playoff matches and final will be announced soon.
