Japan Airlines (JAL) reported a cyber attack on Thursday, causing delays in domestic and international flights. The airline later identified the issue and resolved it.
According to public broadcaster NHK, problems in the airline’s baggage check-in system caused delays for over a dozen flights at several Japanese airports. However, there were no mass cancellations or major disruptions.
JAL, Japan’s second-largest airline after All Nippon Airways (ANA), addressed the situation through social media. “We identified and resolved the issue and are checking the system’s restoration status,” JAL stated in a post on the social media platform X. “Sales for both domestic and international flights departing today have been suspended. We apologize for any inconvenience.”
Earlier on Thursday, a JAL spokesperson confirmed the cyber attack. The airline reported that the network disruption began at 7:24 a.m. local time.
