Popular Nepali actor Jeevan Luitel is set to return to acting after a decade, making his comeback through the stage play Shirishko Phool. The play will be staged from Shrawan 1 at the Kantipur Theater in Kathmandu, where Luitel will portray the lead character Suyogbir.
Returning from the USA for the role
Luitel, who moved to the United States ten years ago at the peak of his film career, is flying back to Nepal next week specifically for this play, confirmed theater director Prakash Puri. The actor was last seen in the 2018 Nepali film Sukul Gunda.
Based on Parijat’s acclaimed novel
Shirishko Phool is a stage adaptation of the classic Nepali novel by celebrated author Parijat. The play is being written and directed by Patrika Ghimire, a student of Kantipur Theater. While Luitel’s role as Suyogbir has been announced, the name of the actress playing the female lead character Sakambari is yet to be revealed.
A meaningful comeback for Luitel
Director Puri shared that they were looking for an actor with a strong command of both literature and performance—and Luitel perfectly fit the character. “He was also looking for the right platform to make his return,” Puri said. “Audiences will be excited to see him again on stage after all these years.”
Last month, Kantipur Theater drew attention with its production Meera, featuring Rekha Thapa in the lead role. With Luitel now joining the team for their next major production, the excitement in the theater scene is expected to grow even more.
