Karan Rawal Triumphs in 5th Cross-country Race

Karan Rawal of Nepal Army claimed victory in the 5th Cross-country Race organized by the Satsayya Kolma Bahakot Sampark Manch, completing the 25 km race in 1 hour, 27 minutes, and 52 seconds, earning a prize of Rs 50,000. Tanka Bahadur Karki of the Army secured second place with a time of 1 hour, 32 minutes, and 9 seconds, winning Rs 40,000. Ramesh Limbu finished third, clocking in at 1 hour, 32 minutes, and 59 seconds, receiving Rs 30,000.

The race took place from Barahchaur in Putalibazaar Municipality-9, passing through various locations like Satidanda, Kaule, Thumki Danda, and Jimire Temple.

In the Under-21 men’s 10 km race, Sanam Gurung emerged as the champion, completing the race in 46 minutes and 35 seconds, earning Rs 15,000. Padam Bahadur Manandhar finished second, while Rudra Budhathoki placed third.

Rabina Budhamagar won the open women’s 10 km race with a time of 1 hour, 12 minutes, and 26 seconds, claiming Rs 15,000. Bimala Manandhar was the runner-up.

In the 5 km student race, Kolma Barahchaur claimed the top two spots, with Janajagruti Secondary School securing third. Relay race winners were awarded cash prizes of Rs 12,000, Rs 8,000, and Rs 4,000 for first, second, and third places, respectively.

Jeevan Prasad Pokharel, general secretary of the organizing committee, emphasized the event’s goal of showcasing the potential for national-level sports in rural areas. (TRN)
