A total of nine teams, including two international clubs, will compete in the third edition of the KP Oli Cup Football Tournament, the organizers, National Youth Association, have announced. The tournament will take place from February 23 to March 3 in Kathmandu and Lalitpur.
Foreign and Domestic Teams Set to Compete
Among the participating teams, Uzbekistan’s Black Bulls, who recently won the Aaha Rara Pokhara Gold Cup, and Bhutan’s Transport United will represent the foreign clubs.
From Nepal, three departmental teams—Tribhuvan Army FC, Nepal Police Club, and APF FC—will compete alongside Machhindra FC, New Road Team (NRT), and Sankata FC. The host team, KP FC, will also take part.
The tournament draw will be announced in the coming days.
Fewer Teams Than Expected
Earlier, there were discussions about including additional A Division clubs and more foreign teams. However, in the end, only nine teams will participate. Initially, during a press conference, the organizers had planned for ten teams in the tournament.
Venue and Prize Money
The quarter-final matches will be played at the ANFA Complex in Satdobato, while the semi-finals and final will take place at the Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwar.
The champion team will receive NPR 1,511,111 along with the trophy, while the runner-up will take home NPR 500,000.
Individual awards will also be given:
- Best Player of the Tournament – NPR 100,000
- Best Goalkeeper, Top Scorer, and Emerging Player – NPR 50,000 each
Machhindra’s Strong History
Machhindra FC has been dominant in the previous editions, winning both the first and second editions of the KP Oli Cup. The defending champions will aim to continue their winning streak in this year’s tournament.
