A major land scam has come to light at the Gaushala Land Revenue Office (Malpot), Mahottari, where land was illegally sold in the name of a deceased individual, Mahesh Chaudhary.
The land, located in Shivbhakti Khor 2 (B), Plot No. 183, measured 0-5-12.5 (Ropani-Aana-Paisa-Daam) and belonged to Mahesh Chaudhary of Prasadevada.
The Ward Chair of Gaushala Municipality-4, Ramnarayan Mahaseth, had recommended the land for sale on Ashar 6, 2082, stating that it had no access road and was categorized as agricultural land.
However, Mahesh Chaudhary had already passed away at the time of this recommendation.
Fake Owner, Cash Payment & Rule Violation
- A fake landowner was set up, and the land was transferred on Ashar 8 to Ranjit Kumar Sah of Samsi Rural Municipality-4 for Rs. 11.35 lakh.
- The transaction violated rules:
- Bank voucher was not submitted, even though it is mandatory for deals above Rs. 10 lakh.
- The payment was made in cash, which is against regulations.
- The seller’s citizenship was not verified, and fake details were submitted during the process.
Malpot Officials Under Suspicion
- Malpot staff and brokers reportedly colluded to bypass rules.
- The buyer was manipulated into helping with the process.
- False paperwork was prepared, and some documents were even stolen from the Malpot office to cover the tracks.
- Pages from official registers were also reportedly torn to hide evidence.
Transactions Cancelled After Dispute
- Three plots of land in total were sold under the deceased person’s name, including from Jaleshwar Malpot.
- When disputes arose and financial disagreements emerged, the Gaushala Malpot Office canceled the ownership transfer on Ashar 16, 2082.
- The land was reverted back to the name of the deceased, Mahesh Chaudhary.
Investigation Underway
- Information Officer Bishnu Kumar Mahat confirmed that:
- Transactions occurred on Ashar 6, 8, and 9.
- After discovering the fraud, action was taken on Ashar 16.
- The incident has been reported to higher authorities, and a full investigation is ongoing.
