Tensions are mounting in the weeks leading up to Sean “Diddy” Combs’ federal trial, with sharp disagreements emerging between prosecutors and the defense team. Federal prosecutors from the Southern District of New York filed a motion on Monday to admit evidence of Combs’ alleged history of sexual abuse against other victims, which they believe undermines his defense that previous relationships were consensual. The prosecution asserts that such testimony would highlight a recurring pattern of misconduct by the music mogul.
While the court filings remain largely redacted, many of the allegations seem to echo claims made in civil lawsuits against Combs, including a high-profile case from his former partner, Cassandra “Cassie” Ventura. Ventura is expected to testify under her own name and will be the first of four key witnesses when the trial begins on May 5. Combs is facing five charges, including racketeering, sex trafficking, and transportation for prostitution, all of which he has denied.
In response, Combs’ defense team has called the new accusations a “horror show” of unproven and outdated claims, some dating back to the 1980s. They argue that allowing such testimony would unfairly prejudice the jury and potentially double the expected length of the trial, which was initially projected to last three weeks.
