A man in his twenties has been indicted for unlawfully entering the former dormitory of K-pop girl group NewJeans and stealing fan-related items, according to official reports released on May 1. The incident has sparked renewed concern over the safety and privacy of idols, particularly during ongoing disputes between artists and management agencies.
The Seoul Western District Court formally indicted the suspect, identified only as ‘A’, on April 25. Police confirmed that he broke into the now-empty dormitory on two separate occasions—first on December 18, 2024, and again on December 21. During the second intrusion, ‘A’ reportedly stole various items, including clothes hangers and fan slogans. Investigators noted that the door to the dormitory had been left unlocked at the time of the first break-in.
The dorm had been vacated following NewJeans’ announcement in November 2024 to terminate their exclusive contracts with ADOR, the agency that managed them. Their departure triggered a highly publicized legal standoff, with the group pushing to sever ties while ADOR continues to assert control over their management rights.
While the motive for the intrusions remains unclear, the nature of the stolen items—objects tied to fandom culture—has added a disturbing twist to the case.
