Kazan, a city in Russia, faced a major incident as eight drones struck high-rise buildings, triggering a massive fire. The attacks occurred in quick succession, targeting several multi-story structures and causing panic among residents.
Russian authorities have accused Ukraine of orchestrating the drone strikes. Emergency teams responded promptly, evacuating residents from the affected buildings to ensure their safety.
Airports Temporarily Shut Down
The attacks disrupted air travel, with Russian aviation agency Rosaviatsia confirming the temporary suspension of operations at Kazan airport. Similar restrictions were also imposed at Izhevsk airport. Kazan, located around 800 kilometers east of Moscow, saw its air defenses intercept one of the drones, although others managed to breach the city.
Russian Retaliatory Strikes on Ukraine
The Kazan attack followed a Russian assault on Ukraine earlier, where a barrage of 60 drones and five ballistic missiles struck Kyiv and other cities on Friday night. Residential areas in Kyiv were heavily damaged, leaving one person dead and several injured.
The escalating use of drones in the conflict highlights the growing intensity of the Russia-Ukraine war.
