Mick Jagger, the iconic frontman of The Rolling Stones, and his long-time partner, Melanie Hamrick, have officially confirmed their engagement, though they have no immediate plans to tie the knot. The couple, who began dating in 2014, shared this news through an interview with Paris Match, where Melanie revealed that they had been engaged for “two or three years.” The 37-year-old former ballerina also made it clear that marriage is not a priority at the moment. She expressed, “Maybe we’ll marry one day, maybe not. We’re so happy with how things are right now that I’m afraid to change anything.”
When asked about the secret to their successful relationship, Hamrick shared their simple approach: “We try to support each other, be there for each other, and make sure everyone is happy. That’s what matters to me, and I work toward that every day.”
Rumors about their engagement had been circulating for some time. A couple of years ago, during the release of Hamrick’s debut novel First Position, she had subtly hinted at their engagement while remaining playful about the ring she was wearing. In an interview with People magazine, she had said, “I have to giggle because yes, Mick gave me the ring. Is it for that finger? Yes. But are we like, teenagers? In my mind, it’s a promise ring. We’ll just call it that for fun.”
The couple first met in February 2014 while both were on tour in Japan—Jagger with The Rolling Stones and Hamrick with the American Ballet Theatre. Their first meeting took place backstage at one of Jagger’s concerts, facilitated by mutual friends. Four months later, Jagger invited Hamrick to join him in Zurich, and their relationship blossomed from there. In 2016, they welcomed their son, Deveraux Octavian Basil.
In 2019, they combined their creative passions for Porte Rouge, a ballet that featured Jagger’s music and Hamrick’s choreography. Despite their professional collaboration, Hamrick values keeping their personal and professional lives distinct. She shared, “I prefer to keep work separate. It keeps things fun for me.”
