Elon Musk has reportedly offered $97.4 billion to acquire OpenAI, through a consortium he leads. The non-profit that oversees OpenAI is the target of this bid.
This move has stirred tensions between Musk and OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman. Altman responded on X, rejecting the offer and instead suggesting he could purchase ‘Twitter’ for the same amount.
Musk, who co-founded OpenAI with Altman, had left the company before its official launch.
The timing of this comes shortly after the newly sworn-in US President, Donald Trump, established the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) as a federal agency. Led by Elon Musk, DOGE aims to optimize government operations and reduce expenses, potentially reshaping the management of public services.
