New Zealand has secured a place in the ICC Champions Trophy final. In the second semifinal held on Wednesday, they defeated South Africa by 50 runs, setting up a title clash against India.
Chasing a formidable target of 363 runs set by New Zealand, South Africa managed to score only 312 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 50 overs. Despite an unbeaten century from David Miller, it wasn’t enough to secure victory. Rassie van der Dussen scored 69, while captain Temba Bavuma contributed 56 runs.
New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner took three wickets, conceding 43 runs in his 10-over spell. Matt Henry and Glenn Phillips took two wickets each, while Michael Bracewell and Rachin Ravindra grabbed one wicket each.
Earlier, after winning the toss and electing to bat first in Lahore, New Zealand posted a strong total of 362 runs for the loss of six wickets in 50 overs.
Rachin Ravindra and Kane Williamson both scored centuries, with Ravindra making 108 runs and Williamson adding 102. Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips contributed 49 runs each.
For South Africa, Lungi Ngidi took three wickets, conceding 72 runs in 10 overs, while Kagiso Rabada took two wickets for 70 runs in his 10-over spell. Wiaan Mulder claimed one wicket.
The final of the Champions Trophy will take place on Sunday in Dubai, where India and New Zealand will compete for the title.
