Bhaktapur police have uncovered chilling details about the tragic murder of a father and son in Balkot. Milan Acharya, originally from Khotang, confessed to the killings after surrendering at the Maharajgunj Police Circle this morning. He revealed that he had previously attempted to kill both his parents during the Dashain festival but failed to carry out the plan.
Acharya admitted that after killing his father and brother, he attempted suicide by hanging himself from a tree with a scarf. However, the knot came undone, and he survived.
Milan Acharya’s Statement:
“I failed the Public Service Commission exams six or seven times, and I became fed up with life. I fell into depression. After repeatedly failing, I felt that my life had no meaning anymore. I decided I didn’t want to live.
My father was also a depression patient. He had once attempted suicide. I thought, if I didn’t survive, how would my family manage to live? So, I decided that my parents needed to die before me. During Dashain, when I went to the village, I tried to kill them, but the situation didn’t allow it.
This time, when my father came for treatment, I saw the ‘right opportunity.’ I thought we would all find justice and liberation, so I killed my father and brother.
After the murders, I went to the forest in Bhaktapur. I tried to hang myself with a scarf, but the knot loosened, and I survived. It felt like God was telling me not to die. After my father and brother were gone, I thought I should take care of my mother.
From there, I went to Bhaktapur Durbar Square and stayed there all day. In the evening, I took a room at Sagarmatha Hotel in Chabahil and stayed there for two nights. This morning, I saw the news in the newspaper. Carrying that newspaper, I went to Koteshwar. But when I reached there, I felt I was heading to the wrong place, so I got off the vehicle and took another one to Maharajgunj. At the Maharajgunj police office, I showed the officer the newspaper and said, ‘This is me.’”
