Industrialist and Karisma Kapoor’s former husband, Sunjay Kapur, has passed away at the age of 53 after reportedly suffering a massive heart attack while playing polo in the United Kingdom. The tragic incident unfolded during a match where Kapur, who was the patron of his team Aureus, collapsed unexpectedly on the field.
According to media reports, a rare and shocking detail has emerged about the cause of death. It is believed that Sunjay may have accidentally swallowed a bee while playing, and the subsequent sting in his throat allegedly triggered the fatal heart attack.
Sunjay was actively involved in the polo scene and was playing against Sujan, a team led by hotelier Jaisal Singh, at the time of the incident.
Kapur’s funeral is scheduled to take place today in Delhi. Actress Karisma Kapoor was seen at Mumbai’s Kalina airport along with her children, Samaira and Kiaan, as they made their way to attend the ceremony and pay their final respects.
Tragically, just hours before his death, Sunjay Kapur expressed condolences on X (formerly Twitter) to the victims of the Ahmedabad to London Air India crash. His last post read:
“Terrible news of the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad. My thoughts and prayers are with all the families affected. May they find strength in this difficult hour.”
Sunjay and Karisma tied the knot in 2003 and later separated in 2014. Their divorce was finalized in 2016. In 2017, Sunjay remarried model Priya Sachdev, with whom he shares a son, Azarias. He was also co-parenting Priya’s daughter, Safira Chatwal, from her previous marriage.
