An elderly woman died in Myagdi after being struck by a rock dislodged during a landslide.
Incident Details
The tragedy occurred in Annapurna Rural Municipality-4, Gadpar, on Wednesday around 11:30 AM. A rock from a landslide that fell from a hill behind the settlement hit the house, killing 72-year-old Sita Phagami on the spot, according to local police.
Only Elderly Couple at Home
At the time of the incident, only the elderly woman and her husband were at home. The landslide started with small rocks falling continuously before a larger section of the hill collapsed.
Warning from Across the River
Residents across the Kaligandaki River in Dana had noticed the signs of the landslide and tried to warn the nearby villagers by shouting and whistling. However, the woman could not escape in time.
Eyewitness Account
Indra Singh Sherchan from Dana village said, “We kept shouting that a landslide was coming. People near the danger zone were running, but the elderly woman couldn’t escape. Since only she and her husband were at home and due to her old age, she couldn’t run, which led to this tragic loss.”
