A pistol looted during a scuffle between a drug smuggling group and the police in the remote Kailash Rural Municipality of Makawanpur has been found in the jungle.
Makawanpur Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Shyamu Aryal informed that the looted Type-54 pistol, loaded with seven rounds of bullets, was found on Tuesday morning at 10 AM in the Bolne lek jungle of Ward No. 1. The pistol was looted in the Dumshi kharka jungle of Ward No. 6 on Monday afternoon. DSP Aryal stated that the route from Dumshi kharka to Bolne lek jungle is commonly used to reach Gajuri in Dhading.
According to DSP Aryal, after receiving information about opium smuggling in Kailash Rural Municipality, constable Arjun Tamang and assistant constable Govindra Mangrati from the Palung Area Police Office were deployed to the Dumshi kharka jungle. When they encountered the smuggling group in the jungle, a physical altercation ensued, and the group looted the pistol from constable Tamang.
DSP Aryal told The Ritible that two individuals carrying 2 kg of opium had arrived on a motorcycle and later called in a group of ten more. “Initially, only two people came on a motorcycle. After seeing the police, they called for reinforcements. During the confrontation, there was a scuffle between the police and the smugglers, and they managed to loot the pistol before escaping,” he said.
The identities of the smugglers have not been established yet, according to DSP Aryal. “We have not been able to identify them. A police search operation is underway,” he stated. DSP Aryal and his team had reached the area on Monday itself. He added that the district police team had traveled to Kailash to collect information regarding drug trafficking activities.
A team led by DSP Aryal, including Inspector Sabin Babu Aryal from the Palung Area Police Office, Inspector Bishal Sapkota from Manahari, and Inspector Suman Chapagain from the Gajuri Area Police Office in Dhading, was mobilized to search for the accused involved in drug smuggling.
