Kathmandu – Police have arrested seven individuals along with 271 stolen mobile phones.
The arrested individuals include 35-year-old Pramod Pariyar from Bethanchowk Rural Municipality-5, Kavre; 26-year-old Gunaraj Neupane from Khanikhola Rural Municipality-5, Kavre; 30-year-old Hemanta Rana Magar from Chandranigahapur Municipality-1, Rautahat; 28-year-old Shambhu Bishwakarma from Shailung Rural Municipality-6, Dolakha; 22-year-old Rajesh Chalise from Melamchi Municipality-11, Sindhupalchok; 21-year-old Sabin Pandey from Kalindok Rural Municipality-5, Dolakha; and 20-year-old Prakash Katwal from Sinamangal, Kathmandu.
A team from the Kathmandu District Police Range arrested them. According to SP and spokesperson Apil Raj Bohora, authorities recovered 271 mobile phones of various brands, 15 laptops, and 9 tablets from them.
Among the recovered mobile phones, 18 are iPhones. The arrest followed an incident where a passenger’s phone was pickpocketed while traveling from Thimi to Koteshwar on a public bus on Wednesday.
Upon receiving information about the theft, police launched an investigation and arrested those involved in the pickpocketing. Further investigation led to the seizure of a large number of stolen mobile phones and laptops.
According to SP Bohora, the group used to sell the stolen mobile phones at Saroj Mobile Repairing Center in Jagati, Bhaktapur.
