Two-time Olympic medalist and former world champion PV Sindhu suffered another early exit from the Swiss Open 2025, losing in the first round to Denmark’s Julie Jakobsen. The world number 17 was defeated 21-17, 21-19 in a tough 61-minute match, marking her third consecutive first-round exit this year. Sindhu had earlier reached the quarterfinals of the Indian Open but has since struggled, bowing out early in the Indonesia Masters, All England Open, and now the Swiss Open, a tournament she previously won in 2022.
In the men’s singles, Kidambi Srikanth won a hard-fought match against fellow Indian HS Prannoy, securing victory with a close 23-21, 23-21 scoreline. Srikanth, now ranked 49th in the world, will next face China’s world number six, Li Shifeng, in the round of 16.
Qualifier Sankar Subramanian also impressed with a commanding 21-5, 21-16 win over Denmark’s Magnus Johannesen. He now faces a tough challenge against world number two, Anders Antonsen of Denmark.
In the women’s singles, Anupama Upadhyaya and Isharani Baruah advanced to the next round. Anupama defeated fellow Indian Anmol Kharb 21-14, 21-13, while Isharani overcame Aakarshi Kashyap in a tight match, winning 21-18, 17-21, 20-22. However, Malvika Bansod was eliminated after a close battle against Canada’s Michelle Li, losing 20-22, 21-14, 21-19.
