South superstar Suriya has made a strong comeback with his recently released film Retro, which is winning hearts both in India and overseas. While several films hit theaters around the same time, Retro has emerged as a clear winner at the box office.
Retro Box Office Collection
Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, Retro opened to a great response, earning ₹19.25 crore on Day 1. Within just four days, the film collected ₹52.95 crore in India. What’s even more impressive is its international success. Retro has now crossed the ₹200 crore mark worldwide, making it one of Suriya’s biggest hits.
Kanguva Failed to Impress
Suriya’s previous film Kanguva, which released last year, was expected to perform well due to its grand scale and star-studded cast. However, it couldn’t live up to the hype. The film earned ₹24 crore on Day 1, slightly more than Retro’s opening, but it failed to maintain momentum. By the end of its first weekend, Kanguva had collected just ₹53.6 crore, and its lifetime worldwide total remained around ₹106 crore — only half of what Retro has earned.
Retro Wins, Kanguva Misses the Mark
While Kanguva featured big names like Bobby Deol and Disha Patani alongside Suriya, it fell flat in entertaining the audience. In contrast, Retro is receiving praise for Suriya’s powerful performance and engaging storytelling. The film also stars Pooja Hegde, Jojju George, Jayaram, Nassar, and Prakash Raj in key roles.
Fans Can’t Stop Praising Suriya
Suriya’s performance in Retro is being called one of his best in recent times. The film’s success proves that strong storytelling and acting can triumph even over big-budget disappointments.
