Nithiin was hoping for a big comeback with his latest movie, Robinhood, which was released on March 28. The film was heavily promoted before its release and had a decent start, earning ₹4 crores on its first day. Since the release happened during the Ugadi and Ramzan festival period, which usually helps movies do well, many expected the film to perform better. However, Robinhood only managed to collect ₹8 crores worldwide by the end of the first weekend.
Compared to other movies released the same weekend, Robinhood is not doing well. Films like Mad Square starring Sangeeth Shobhan, L2: Empuraan starring Mohanlal, and Sikandar starring Salman Khan are performing much better. Trade experts believe that Robinhood might struggle to even reach ₹10–15 crores in total, which would make it a box office failure since its budget is much higher than its earnings.
One of the main reasons for the poor performance is the movie’s predictable story. If a film follows a familiar plot, it at least needs an interesting screenplay and engaging scenes. Unfortunately, Robinhood does not offer anything fresh or exciting. The twists in the story are easy to guess, and the comedy doesn’t work well with the audience.
Nowadays, many people prefer to watch good content on OTT platforms instead of going to theaters. Because of this, movies need to be special to attract viewers. Even though the promotional material for Robinhood was fun, the actual movie failed to deliver the same level of entertainment. After reading negative reviews and hearing bad word-of-mouth feedback, audiences were not interested in going to the theaters.
Today, moviegoers check reviews before deciding to buy a ticket. While Nithiin’s loyal fans may have watched Robinhood on the first day, the film could not maintain interest among general audiences. The negative talk about the movie made people stay away from cinemas.
Unless there is a sudden rise in ticket sales, Robinhood will likely end up as another film that failed at the box office. Without a major improvement in earnings, it seems unlikely that the film will recover from this slow start.
