Arjuna awardee and former world champion boxer Saweety Boora has filed an FIR against her husband, Deepak Hooda, a fellow Arjuna awardee and an accomplished kabaddi player. The complaint, lodged in Hisar, Haryana, accuses Hooda and his family of assaulting her for dowry.
Boora and Hooda, who tied the knot in 2022, are now entangled in a legal battle. According to Seema, the SHO of the women’s police station in Hisar, the FIR was registered on February 25 based on Boora’s complaint.
Luxury Car Demand and Alleged Assault
The allegations against Hooda include torture and assault for additional dowry demands. Reports suggest that a luxury car was already provided, yet demands for more money persisted, leading to alleged physical abuse. The case has been registered under Section 85 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with cruelty by a husband or his relatives.
Hooda’s Response and Police Investigation
Despite multiple notices from the police, Hooda has yet to appear for questioning. Defending his absence, Hooda cited health issues caused by emotional trauma and submitted a medical certificate requesting more time. Speaking to the media, he refrained from making negative remarks about Boora but claimed he had been denied the chance to meet her.
When contacted, Boora refused to comment on the matter.
Hooda’s Sporting and Political Background
Deepak Hooda, a former captain of the Indian kabaddi team, has an impressive record, including a gold medal at the 2016 South Asian Games and a bronze at the 2014 Asian Games. He has also played in the Pro Kabaddi League.
Apart from sports, Hooda had ventured into politics and contested the 2024 Haryana Assembly elections from the Meham constituency on a BJP ticket, but he was unsuccessful.
The case continues to unfold as authorities proceed with their investigation.
