Amid her thriving acting career, which includes notable projects like Mirzapur and Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein, Shweta Tripathi is now venturing into the world of film production. When asked about this new direction, she explains, “As an audience member, I have always been deeply moved by compelling stories on stage and screen. I experience a sense of longing to have that power—to evoke emotions and connect with people through the narratives I choose to tell.”
Tripathi feels there is a gap in storytelling that she wants to fill as a producer. “The world we live in is filled with contradictions, yet many stories remain untold. I want to explore the joys, struggles, and emotions that define human experiences. And for that, I don’t want to be dependent on others. I want to take control of the process,” she says. Acknowledging that this journey will come with its share of challenges, she remains optimistic. “There will be hurdles, heartbreaks, and victories, but I am prepared to embrace them. I am lucky to have a strong support system that gives me the courage to take this leap,” she adds.
With her production company already in motion, Tripathi reveals that she has four films in development, each unique in its theme and storytelling. “One of the projects is a love story centered around two women, directed and written by a National Award-winning filmmaker. The film is created for and by the LGBTQIA+ community, and I am also acting in it. Initially, I was approached just as an actor, but after hearing the story, I asked if I could come on board as a producer as well. This project is very close to my heart,” she shares. Her upcoming slate also includes a horror film, a psychological thriller, and a drama, all of which promise to bring fresh narratives to the screen.
Beyond films, Tripathi aspires to create meaningful content for children. “Cinema has played a significant role in shaping who I am today, both personally and professionally. Now that I have a platform and a voice, I want to use it to contribute to the generations to come,” she states. She is clear, however, that her decision to produce films is not solely to create acting opportunities for herself. “For me, storytelling is the priority. There will be several films I produce where I won’t act. My current focus is on telling impactful stories. Narratives have the power to shape society, and it’s crucial that we tell them well.”
Tripathi is also eager to explore different formats and platforms. “I don’t want to limit myself to films; I want to venture into radio, audiobooks, and more. If a role is better suited for someone else, I won’t hesitate to step back. My ultimate goal is to create content that resonates and leaves a lasting impact,” she concludes.
