Sonu Sood Breaks Silence on Viral Helmet Video; Spiti Police Initiate Legal Action

Actor Sonu Sood is currently facing criticism after a video surfaced showing him riding a bike in Spiti Valley without a helmet and other safety gear. The incident prompted the Spiti police to announce plans for legal action against the actor. However, Sonu has now clarified that the footage was part of a scripted scene and not an actual event.

Sonu Sood Clarifies Controversy

On Tuesday, Sonu took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to address the backlash. He explained that the video circulating online was an old clip filmed for a scripted project. To emphasize his commitment to road safety, Sonu also shared a recent video of himself wearing a helmet while riding a bike. He urged fans and followers to prioritize safety, stating, “Safety First. We always abide by the laws. The old clip without the helmet was part of our script, so kindly ignore. RIDE SAFE. RIDE SMART. ALWAYS WEAR A HELMET.”

Backlash and Police Response

The controversy erupted on Monday when multiple clips from Sonu’s Spiti trip were shared on social media, showing him riding shirtless, in shorts, wearing sunglasses, and without a helmet. The videos featured Sonu riding alongside a group of bikers through snow-covered mountainous terrain. The timing of the clips drew sharp criticism, especially since Sonu had recently promoted road safety, and his wife had been injured in a car accident earlier this year.

In response to the public outcry, the Lahaul-Spiti district police issued a statement on X, confirming that they would investigate and take necessary legal action. The police noted that the video appeared to be from 2023 but stressed that the matter is under review by the Deputy Superintendent of Police in Kyelang. They urged all residents and tourists to obey traffic regulations and maintain responsible conduct on the roads.

The police statement read, “A video is circulating on social media showing a Bollywood actor violating traffic rules in Lahaul-Spiti district. The authenticity of the footage is being investigated. Appropriate legal measures will be taken based on the findings. We appeal to all citizens and visitors to follow traffic rules and behave responsibly.”
