Speeding Sumo Crashes in Okhaldhunga: Three Dead, One Missing

A Sumo vehicle carrying a sick person from Khotang to Kathmandu met with an accident, killing three people. The Sumo, with vehicle number Na 1 Ja 6421, was traveling from Khotang to Kathmandu when it crashed at Bhandare Khola in Manebhanjyang Rural Municipality, Okhaldhunga.

According to the police, all three passengers died at the scene. The accident was discovered around 6:30 AM on Thursday.

The victims were identified as 56-year-old Maya Devi Gurung from Kepilagadhi Rural Municipality-3, Khotang, her 28-year-old son Pujan Gurung, and her 45-year-old sister Tara Gurung from Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality.

Maya Devi Gurung was sick, and her son and sister were taking her to Kathmandu for treatment. The vehicle had four people on board, including the driver. Three passengers died on the spot, while the driver, 22-year-old Anil Pandit from Inaruwa, Sunsari, is missing.

Police believe the accident happened at night. Around 11 PM on Wednesday, the police at Chyasmitar tried to stop the Sumo, but it did not stop and was moving at high speed, according to Halesi Area Police Office.
