The internet is buzzing with the surprising news of Tahira Kashyap, wife of Ayushmann Khurrana, facing a recurrence of breast cancer after seven years. On World Health Day, the author and filmmaker shared a heartfelt post filled with optimism, offering an update on her health. Tahira, who has always been transparent about her health journey, had once revealed that she was advised to keep her diagnosis private and limit sharing the news to just her close family members.
In a candid interview with IANS back in 2019, Tahira opened up about the most challenging period of her life. Reflecting on her experience, she recalled, “No one in my immediate circle judged me. However, a few close relatives suggested that I keep the news within the family. I initially thought that might be the right approach.”
She also shared the stories her doctors told her about many women who resisted getting themselves examined due to the stigma and shame often associated with it. This guilt led many to avoid screenings altogether.
Despite the advice to remain silent, Tahira was determined to raise awareness about the importance of early breast cancer detection and self-love. “If you’re battling cancer, don’t let it define who you are. You are so much bigger than the disease. Be the strong person you’ve always been. I wanted to break the taboo and stigma surrounding cancer. No matter what challenges come your way, embrace them with love for yourself because, in the end, you’re the one fighting and you’re nothing short of a warrior,” she shared in the interview.
Earlier today, Tahira announced her cancer’s recurrence, and in a post on Instagram, she emphasized the importance of regular screenings. Her caption read, “#regularscreening #mammogram not shying away from saying it #breastcancer #onemoretime #letsgo.” She pointed out the irony that this announcement came on #WorldHealthDay, encouraging everyone to take charge of their health. She closed with a message of gratitude: “#gratitude through and through 🙏.”
