A 16-year-old boy, Sabin Rai, from Dikuwa, Khotang, has been missing since Saturday morning after he was swept away by the Sunkoshi River while swimming. Despite ongoing search efforts by local residents, police, and armed forces, Sabin has not been found. Authorities are now planning to deploy professional divers to aid in the search.
Sabin, a 10th-grade student at Chyasmitar Secondary School, had gone to the river with a friend to meet a traditional healer. The incident has left his family and community in deep distress. Local officials have requested assistance from the District Security Committee to expedite the search operation.
The Sunkoshi River, known for its strong currents, has been the site of several accidents in the past. Recent floods and landslides in the Khotang district have further complicated rescue efforts, damaging infrastructure and making access to certain areas difficult.
Authorities urge the public to exercise caution near the riverbanks, especially during the monsoon season when water levels can rise rapidly. The community continues to hope for Sabin’s safe return.
