The Devil Wears Prada 2 Begins Filming: Original Cast Returns—But One Familiar Face Won’t

The Runway offices are buzzing once again. Disney’s 20th Century Studios has announced via Instagram that production on the long‑rumoured sequel to The Devil Wears Prada is now underway.

Who’s back—and who isn’t

Almost the entire original ensemble is strutting back onto set:

  • Meryl Streep reprises her iconic role as ice‑cold editor‑in‑chief Miranda Priestly.
  • Anne Hathaway returns as Andy Sachs, the once‑beleaguered assistant who found her voice.
  • Emily Blunt (Emily Charlton) and Stanley Tucci (Nigel Kipling) are also confirmed.
  • Director David Frankel and producer Wendy Finerman are both back behind the camera.

One notable absence: Adrien Grenier, who played Andy’s boyfriend Nate Cooper, will not appear in the follow‑up, sources told Entertainment Weekly. The original film ended with the pair seemingly reconciling and planning a move to Boston for Nate’s new chef position.

A brand‑new face

Deadline reports that Kenneth Branagh has signed on to play Miranda Priestly’s husband. In the first film Miranda revealed—briefly and vulnerably—that her third marriage was crumbling; the sequel will apparently explore that storyline further.

Why the hype matters

Based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 bestseller, the 2006 film became a global phenomenon, grossing $326.7 million and earning Streep a Golden Globe and an Oscar nod. With its sharp satire of the fashion world and endlessly quotable lines (“That’s all”), the movie has remained a pop‑culture staple.

Now, nearly two decades later, cameras are rolling, the stakes are higher, and Miranda’s infamous glare is ready to freeze a new generation of fashion hopefuls. Prepare for another whirlwind trip through stilettos, sarcasm and, undoubtedly, an entirely new wardrobe of unforgettable one‑liners.
