Police have arrested three individuals, including an Indian national, on charges of gang-raping a woman in Morang’s Katahari Rural Municipality-2.
According to the police, a 23-year-old woman from Jahada Rural Municipality-3 was found unconscious in a bamboo grove, about two kilometers from her home. Her hands and legs were tied, and her mouth was gagged with a shawl. She was discovered in this condition on Tuesday.
Based on the woman’s statement, the police arrested three suspects. Those in custody include Mohammad Ramzan (19) and Sonu Kumar Sah (19) from Katahari-2, and Mohammad Gulzar (19) from Araria, India.
DSP Bed Prakash Joshi, spokesperson for the Morang District Police Office, confirmed that an investigation is underway.
The woman, who had gone out to collect straw in the afternoon, was found by locals, who then informed the police. With their help, she was rescued and admitted to Koshi Hospital for treatment. Her health is reportedly improving.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the woman was abducted by the group while she was outside her home for a bathroom break. The suspects reportedly forced her into an auto-rickshaw and took her to the bamboo grove, where the crime occurred. Further investigation is ongoing, according to Morang Police Chief Narayan Chimariya.
