The upgrade of the TU Cricket Stadium in Kirtipur to international standards is unlikely to be completed within the scheduled deadline.
PM Calls for Explanation on Delay
With only two days left before the 300-day deadline, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli summoned officials on Monday to ask for clarification on the delay. He expressed concern over the slow progress in installing the parapet and floodlights.
Officials Blame Coordination Issues and Weather
During a meeting at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, representatives from the Ministry of Urban Development and construction companies cited coordination delays, minor design changes, and bad weather as key reasons for the delay. The PM instructed them to finish the project by the end of Asar.
Contractors Promise in One Month of TU Cricket Stadium
The officials admitted that the deadline would not be met, but committed to completing the remaining work within the next month. They also acknowledged delays in the process of opening Letters of Credit (LCs).
Progress Report Shared with PM
According to the progress report, the parapet work has reached 45.19% financial progress and 55% physical progress. Meanwhile, the floodlight installation shows 23.81% financial progress and 35% physical progress.
Contract Details and Costs
The parapet project was awarded for NPR 49.25 crore, while the floodlight contract was worth NPR 47.37 crore. The deals were signed in the Nepali month of Poush last year with separate contractors.
The TU Cricket Stadium upgrade may be delayed, but the government is now pushing hard for its timely completion.
