Kathmandu — Police have arrested two individuals on charges of fraudulently extorting money by promising to send people to the United States and Canada for foreign employment. The arrested individuals are 25-year-old Bhuvan Karki, originally from Shuklaphanta Municipality-1 in Kanchanpur and currently residing in Tokha Municipality-6, Kathmandu, and 42-year-old Nitesh Pokharel, residing in Kageshwori Manohara Municipality-3, Kathmandu.
Among the arrested, Karki is accused of taking NPR 10 million from three victims by falsely promising to send them to the United States, while Pokharel allegedly took NPR 1.2 million from four victims with a similar promise of sending them to Canada and then became uncontactable.
Based on complaints from the victims, a police team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, Teku, arrested them from Kathmandu.
For further investigation and legal action, Karki has been sent to the District Police Office, Kathmandu, while Pokharel has been handed over to the Department of Foreign Employment, Tahachal, Kathmandu.
