Two Nepalis Killed in Car Accident in Virginia, USA

Two Nepali nationals died in a car accident in Chantilly, Virginia, on Thursday morning, according to local time. The car they were in fell into a pond within the premises of the Wyndham Hotel at around 7 a.m.

The victims have been identified as 55-year-old driver Karna Khadka and his 20-year-old relative Nishchal Bhatta, as reported by NBC Washington, citing local police.

Khadka worked in housekeeping at the same hotel. He had brought his nephew to the hotel, intending to help him secure a job there.

The car reportedly slid on ice from the parking area and fell into a pond about 10 feet deep. Video footage from the accident site shows the front portion of the car submerged in water.

Local Nepalis mentioned that the extreme cold weather and delays in rescue efforts contributed to their deaths.

Karna Khadka lived in the U.S. with his wife, daughter, and son-in-law, while the other victim’s family reportedly resides in Nepal.
