School Bus Accident in Dakshinkali

Students of Junikiri English Boarding School in Dakshinkali Municipality-3, Bhanjyang, were excited about their Sports Week on Sunday. Various competitions, including running, musical chairs, and a speaking contest, had taken place that day. After the events ended, the school bus left to drop students off in Pharping.

However, just a few minutes after leaving the school, tragedy struck. The bus, carrying students and teachers, suddenly lost control and veered off the road, plunging 150 meters down into the Dallu River. The accident resulted in the deaths of the driver and a student, while 45 others were injured.

Wilson Shrestha, an 11-year-old student who survived the crash, recalled the terrifying moment. “We were talking about Monday’s badminton and pot-breaking competitions when suddenly, the seat cover moved forward. It felt like the bus was going downhill, but then we realized it had fallen into the river,” he said. Fortunately, he was unharmed and managed to escape from the back of the bus.

The police confirmed that the bus (Ba 1 Kha 5664) fell off the road and into the river. The deceased were identified as 35-year-old driver Radha Krishna Magar and 8-year-old student Bipin Shrestha, who died while receiving treatment.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident, while the injured are receiving medical care.
