WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will let Android users share motion photos in chats and channels. These motion photos are short clips with both audio and video, captured along with a still photo. On iPhones, this feature is known as Live Photos.
Where Was This Feature Spotted?
According to WABetaInfo, this upcoming feature was found in the WhatsApp beta version 2.25.8.12 for Android. Right now, the feature is still being developed, and testers cannot use it yet.
How Will Motion Photos Work?
Once this feature is ready, users will see a new button in the media picker menu when they send photos. The button will likely appear next to the HD button. By using it, users will be able to send motion photos that play a short video and sound when opened.
Can All Phones View Motion Photos?
Even though only some Android smartphones can capture motion photos, WhatsApp plans to make them viewable on all Android devices. iPhone users will also be able to see them as Live Photos in WhatsApp chats.
Why Is This Feature Important?
Currently, when users send motion photos on WhatsApp, they are shared as normal static images. This new feature will make it more fun and interactive by letting people share moments with sound and movement.
When Will This Feature Be Available?
There is no official release date yet. WhatsApp usually tests new features with beta users before rolling them out to everyone. Once testing is complete, the motion photo feature will likely be added to all Android users through a future update.
Other Features WhatsApp Is Working On
WhatsApp is also working on other new features like:

- Meta AI calling options
- UPI Lite for faster payments

Motion photos will bring a new way for Android users to share moments on WhatsApp. Stay tuned for updates as WhatsApp continues testing and improving this feature for all users.
