Yashasvi Jaiswal reportedly wants to change team

One of India’s most talented young cricketers, Yashasvi Jaiswal, has decided to make a big change in his career. Jaiswal, who has played for the Mumbai state team since his Under-19 days, will be leaving Mumbai and joining the Goa cricket team from the next season.

Request for NOC from Mumbai Cricket Association

Jaiswal has written an email to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) asking for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to change his state team. A source from the MCA told the Indian Express that Jaiswal mentioned “personal reasons” for his decision to move to Goa.

He is not the first cricketer to leave Mumbai for Goa. Arjun Tendulkar and Siddhesh Lad have also made similar moves in the past.

Recent Performance in Domestic and International Cricket

Jaiswal played for Mumbai in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy after returning from the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, where he did not perform well. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made it mandatory for top Indian cricketers like Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli to participate in domestic red-ball cricket.

However, from next season onwards, Jaiswal will represent Goa in domestic cricket.

Struggles in IPL 2025

Jaiswal has had a tough start in the IPL 2025 while playing for Rajasthan Royals (RR). In the first three matches, he has only scored 34 runs, with an average of 11.33 and a strike rate of 106.25. His highest score so far is 29. His scores in the first three games were:

  • 1 run
  • 29 runs
  • 4 runs

RR has also struggled to get good results in the tournament.

Issues in Powerplay and Recent Form

Jaiswal has been struggling during the powerplay (first six overs) since IPL 2024. In the last two IPL seasons, he has been dismissed within the first three overs in 44% of his innings. This is an increase from the 29% dismissal rate he had in the 2022 and 2023 IPL seasons.

Despite scoring 435 runs in IPL 2024 with an average of 31.07 and a strike rate of almost 156, he only managed to score one century and one fifty in the tournament.

Change in Batting Style

Jaiswal’s attacking shot percentage has also decreased over the last two seasons. Earlier, he played attacking shots 70% of the time, but this number has gone down in the last two years. This may be affecting his performance.

As Jaiswal moves to a new team, cricket fans will be eager to see if this change helps him improve his form and confidence.
