SBS’s The Haunted Palace has revealed intense new images ahead of tonight’s episode, promising a thrilling continuation of the fantasy historical rom-com.
Set against a backdrop of mysticism, the series follows the complex story of the Eight Feet Tall Spirit, a vengeful entity targeting the king, the determined female shaman opposing it, and an evil spirit known as Imugi. In the drama, BTOB’s Yook Sungjae plays Yoon Gap, a royal archivist and Yeo Ri’s first love, who becomes possessed by the menacing Imugi named Gangcheori. WJSN’s Kim Ji Yeon portrays Yeo Ri, a shaman’s granddaughter who struggles to reject her spiritual destiny. Meanwhile, Kim Ji Hun takes on the role of King Lee Jeong, a fictional ruler caught in a battle against the Eight Feet Tall Spirit, a being bent on revenge.
In previous episodes, Gangcheori, Yeo Ri, and King Lee Jeong united in a desperate struggle to defeat the monstrous Eight Feet Tall Spirit. Though they gained some ground, they couldn’t eliminate the creature completely.
The aftermath left Pung San (Kim Sang Ho), the blind investigator, drained of his energy. Using the ghostly Sugwi Makdol (Kim Joon Won), the spirit now targets the Queen’s unborn child, plunging the palace into even deeper chaos. Amid this turmoil, Gangcheori confronts his growing feelings for Yeo Ri, just as she is struck down while trying to capture Makdol. The shocking attack on her sends Gangcheori into a state of panic, ending the episode with a gripping cliffhanger.
In the newly released stills, a fierce confrontation unfolds between Gangcheori and King Lee Jeong in a secluded forest under the cover of night. The cause of their heated clash remains unclear, but the tension is palpable. Blood stains Gangcheori’s mouth as King Lee Jeong grabs him by the collar, only for Gangcheori to strike back with a raised fist aimed at the king. These images raise the burning question: what could have sparked such a violent clash between the two?
The production team teased, “In tonight’s episode, Gangcheori and King Lee Jeong will form an uneasy alliance to rescue both Yeo Ri and the Queen, who are critically injured by Makdol’s deadly attack.” They also hinted, “Despite their pride and constant tension, can Gangcheori and King Lee Jeong truly work together to defeat the vengeful spirit? And with their loved ones in danger, will they manage to save Yeo Ri and the Queen? Stay tuned.”
The next episode of The Haunted Palace airs tonight, May 9, at 9:55 p.m. KST!
