14 People Arrested in Protest for Shutting Down Public Transport

A protest against the new ride-sharing rules in Gandaki Province has led to 14 people being arrested by police. These arrests happened after transport workers blocked roads to show their disagreement with the government’s decision.

According to SSP Ramesh Thapa, 12 people were arrested from Kathmandu and 2 from Nawalparasi. Investigations are currently ongoing from the respective district police offices.

The protest was led by public transport workers who oppose the new ride-sharing guidelines introduced by the Gandaki Province government. They called for a complete halt in transport services as a form of protest.

Adding more drama, royalist leader Nawaraj Subedi’s group had also announced a strike for Monday. However, some leaders like Kamal Thapa and Deepak Singh, who were arrested earlier on Sunday evening, were later released. Meanwhile, Rajendra Lingden’s party Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) stated they did not support the protest.
