Family killed over rejected love in Bhojpur

A peaceful village in Bhojpur turned into the scene of a heartbreaking tragedy after a man allegedly killed four members of his wife’s family, including his wife. The reason behind the brutal act appears to be the rejection of an intercaste love marriage by the wife’s family.

Love Marriage Not Accepted by the Family

Rajendra Rai, a 30-year-old construction worker from Helaucha, Bhojpur, had married 16-year-old Manisha Giri around nine months ago. Their marriage was based on love, but it was intercaste, and that reportedly caused tension with Manisha’s family.

Rajendra had gone to his wife’s parental home in Ramprasad Rai Rural Municipality–2, Dhodlekhaani, intending to bring her back. But her family strongly refused to let her go with him.

A Heated Argument Turned Violent

As the argument became more intense, the situation turned violent. According to Rajendra’s own statement to the police, he claimed Manisha’s family attacked him with a knife. He said he then grabbed the same knife and used it to kill four family members.

Those who lost their lives were:

  • Manisha Giri (wife, 16)
  • Bel Bahadur Giri (father-in-law, 68)
  • Manju Giri (mother-in-law, 45)
  • Sapana Giri (brother-in-law, 9)

He Called the Police Himself

After the incident, Rajendra reportedly called the police himself and said, “I killed people, please come and get me.” The police found him with serious injuries to his stomach, which he claimed were caused by the earlier fight. He is now receiving treatment at Bhojpur District Hospital under police watch. Due to his critical condition, further treatment may be arranged elsewhere.

Background and Police Investigation

Rajendra lived in a rented room in Bhojpur’s main town and worked as a laborer. He was not financially well-off. His relationship with Manisha’s family had been tense since their marriage, but no one expected it to end in such a horrifying way.

Koshi Province police chief DIG Ishwor Karki said the incident appears to be driven by rejection of the marriage and family conflict.
